ROCKLIN, Calif. (KTXL) – Wedding planners across Placer County are taking calls from people who had to postpone or even cancel their event after the county pulled into the red row on Sunday.
An empty ballroom was the norm for operations manager Bosue Quinonez at the Chalet Event Center in Rocklin last year.
“We get calls left and right because they’d love to come back,” Quinonez told FOX40.
Once in the red row, the venues can start holding ceremonies and receptions indoors with a capacity of 25%.
The state allows celebrations for up to three households, including event staff.
State guidelines limit wedding ceremonies to the outdoor area below the purple step. Indoor ceremonies are technically legal but are highly recommended.
Under the red tier, the state continues to recommend outdoor weddings.
After having to cancel or postpone up to 60 events, Quinonez said it was a big change from the weddings he’s hosted in the past.
Outdoor breweries and wineries may reopen in some counties
“Before we had more than 100 to 200 weddings. Now there are only 15, 20, 30 people, ”said Quinonez.
While Quinonez said he was positive about the guidelines set out in the red row, California Association of Private Events President Amy Ulkutekin believes the events industry will continue to suffer.
“Three households are almost like a joke, because when there is a split family, you have to decide which parents can participate,” said Ulkutekin.
Another challenge for the industry has been availability as the venues are slowly starting to reopen.
Quinonez said he was trying to balance the wave of new brides and those who had to postpone their wedding.
“Friday, Saturday and Sunday are fully booked. I also book in the weekdays. Some Wednesdays, some Thursdays, some Fridays, even a Monday wedding, right? “Said Quinonez.
Both Ulkutekin and Quinonez agree that the guidelines for weddings in the red row are a start.
“It’s a positive sign for the future,” said Quinonez.
Due to the capacity limitation, according to Quinonez, the Chalet Event Center is also equipped with the option of broadcasting the event via livestream, so that anyone who was not invited can still participate in the celebration virtually.
