A scene from the film An Act Of Defiance that tells the story of ten political activists (including Nelson Mandela and his inner circle of Black and Jewish followers) who may have been sentenced to death in a South African court. It is one of several selections at the Houston Jewish Film Festival 2018.
The 14th annual Houston Jewish Film Festival runs from March 3rd to 18th with a selection of films about Jewish or Israeli culture.
Among the many choices at this year’s festival are films about South African Jews in 1963, the life of musician Sammy Davis Jr., and an Israeli woman who seeks the help of two matchmakers after her wedding is abandoned.
To learn more about this year’s films, Houston Matters producer Joshua Zinn spoke to Leah Gross, Nada Chandler and Amy Rahmani of the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center.
