Like many of us, Simone Giertz spends quarantine working on her passion projects.
For the YouTuber and inventor, this project is a photo box for her dog.
Known as the “Queen of Shitty Robots”, Simone Giertz is known for her innovative, but not very useful technical creations. Her work includes an alarm clock that wakes her up, a Tesla hacked into a pickup truck, and most recently a photo booth that Pavlov made her dog take selfies made entirely of Legos.

It’s damn adorable.
Giertz used Lego blocks to build the structure and a Lego Mindstorms set (their line of programmable robots) for the mechanics. She attached a pedal and circuit board to a treat dispenser and camera. Depressing the pedal triggers both – a mechanism that required a lot of tact to lie correctly, explained Giertz. Figuring out how to program both the camera shutter and the treat shutter release resulted in some wonderful unintentional selfies.
“She gets a treat, I get a photo, everyone is happy,” said Giertz in the video.
The result: an enchanting photo series of scraps. Giertz also programmed a robot dog to take photos of himself as well, which Scraps didn’t seem to appreciate.
“I could have fooled around with this project forever because I had so much fun,” Giertz concluded.
More dog pictures are always welcome.
