DENVER – With COVID-19 restrictions expected to ease in our state over the next few months, a billion dollar industry in Colorado is hoping for a busy season.

Because of the pandemic, many weddings have been postponed and pushed back. Thanks to new guidelines from the governor’s office, businesses and couples trying to tie the knot are optimistic.

After getting engaged in Aspen last August, Brice Kavanaugh and Amy Sharma knew they had no time to waste setting up a wedding date.

“I think we knew there was a lot planned for 2020 that was postponed to 2021. So we thought if we want to do it in 2021 we have to move fast,” said Kavanaugh.

After going through multiple venues, they finally locked one up for that September.

“I didn’t even give up hope because you just don’t want to be let down, and now I’m finally envisioning the perfect day again,” Sharma said.

Your optimism comes after the governor’s office released new guidelines for special events and weddings. Your projections are based on Colorado being blue or green in level.

In addition to owning First Look Events, her own wedding and special events company, Brynn Swanson is part of the Event Alliance in Colorado. She works closely with the governor’s office to develop guidelines for her industry.

“We have six to nine months of lead time to plan events, concerts, conferences, and more. So if we can build consumer confidence that far out, we can save the current contracts we have, and hopefully that Bring business back to Colorado. ” “Said Swanson.

Some of the big changes planned are capacities, which will increase to 60% from May. Ten people could also be seated at a table without coming from the same household, and perhaps most importantly, the dancing is back.

“With the dance floor, my family is a great dancer, so it was devastating that we couldn’t dance all night, but now we’ve officially closed the dance rental,” Sharma said.

With the continued adoption of vaccines, the wedding industry and couples across the state have high hopes for a strong season and wedding anniversary they will never forget.
