Love was literally in the air as high-wire hikers Anna Lebedeva and Mustafa Danguir from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey said their “I do’s” Tuesday morning 30 feet above the floor of the NRG Stadium.
It was a wedding production as colorful and animated as the circus itself. The bride arrived on a black stallion and the groom rode a camel. Witnesses to the unusual wedding included a dozen companions as well as fully costumed clowns, aerialists and acrobats.
Ringmaster David Shipman officiated while Lebedeva and Danguir repeated their vows and exchanged rings perched on the tightrope and allegedly no larger in diameter than a human thumb. The bride’s floor-length dress apparently didn’t interfere with her balancing act.
Local vendors came in to take glamor notes, including Carlos Franco of Salon d’Artista spicing up the bride; Janice and Bobby Jucker from Three Brothers Bakery, who supplied the traditional wedding cake; and Sarah Cain, owner of Sarah’s Florist, who dressed the circus setting in gorgeous, massive arrangements of roses, hydrangeas and orchids and gave the bride her amazing cascade of white orchids.
You can see the happy couple performing high above the crowd daily through Sunday.
