The Astros’ dramatic run to a World Series victory had almost dire consequences for Justin Verlander’s and Kate Upton’s wedding plans, the supermodel told Vogue magazine. When the pitcher was still a member of the Detroit Tigers, the couple picked the first weekend in November for their Italian wedding.

What they couldn’t have known at the time – that Verlander would help lead the Astros to the team’s first championship – meant that all of their guests arrived while the couple was still in Los Angeles. No wonder they skipped the Victory Parade!

“We had an event that night and everyone text us and said your wedding is so beautiful. I wish you were here!” Upton told Jimmy Fallon when the couple appeared on the Tonight Show after returning to the US.

Luckily everything worked out. Upton also shared details on why the couple selected the Rosewood Castiglion Del Bosco Resort as their venue, the pre-wedding Uplander Olympics (complete with custom Under Armor jerseys) and the inspiration for their Valentino gown.

Take a look at the pictures below for a sneak peek. Then head over to Vogue for all the details.
