Fine-tuned preparation is critical to successful wedding photography, especially if you want to avoid unnecessary stress on the big day. Wedding photographer and Fuji Ambassador John Branch IV shows you how he prepares for a couple’s big day.
Branch has a number of tips to help make the wedding day itself smoother. If I want to highlight one aspect, there is one thing you need to make sure you are not formatting memory cards when taking photos. For the first wedding I ever shot (as a favor for a friend on a tight budget), I rushed to swap cards and format the replacement card for about two hours a day before going back to work. I started shooting again and somehow knew I had made a mistake. A quick check revealed that in my hurry I swapped the cards twice, put the one I was using back into my camera and immediately formatted it.
Fortunately, I realized that the file recovery software was able to retrieve the files that were now deleted. I couldn’t be sure until I got back to my computer and spent the rest of the day feeling sick inside thinking I might have lost photos of an entire card from my friend’s wedding day. No fun.
