Animal rights activists have sounded the alarm about the use of camels at weddings in the Noida area.
Three men had previously been arrested for transporting camels to a wedding in Dankaur, but within a week another video of camels at a wedding reception in Dadri went viral on social media, the Times of India reported.
In the video, the camels can all be seen adorned at the wedding location. Activists from the local People for Animals (PFA) unit have filed a complaint against the organizers.
“When we saw the video, we asked the police to take action. So far there has been no progress in this case, ”PFA activist Pragati Khanna was quoted as saying by the TOI.
The police took note of the incident and SHO Rajvir Singh Chauhan was quoted as saying that it was found that camels were used for the chadat ritual (when the groom is on a horse). However, the locals used camels instead.
“The camels were not used for entertainment. Some nomadic tribes tend to bring the camels from Rajasthan to UP, after which the locals hire the animals. We are investigating the incident, ”the policeman was quoted as saying.
A week before this incident, three people were arrested for allegedly transporting two camels to a wedding in Dankaur. The animal activist Khanna had discovered the vehicle with the camels near the Galgotias University. She called the emergency number 112 after becoming suspicious of the pickup.
In that case, an FIR was filed and camels were brought to the Dankaur Police Station.
